November 20, 1988 FACULTY (1946-1975) Bruce Jonathan Gammons (73) Monterey Peninsula Herald, CA Nov. 20, 1988 Bruce Jonathan Gammons, of Pacific Grove, who was an industrial arts teacher for 30 years at Pacific Grove High School and Adult School, died Sunday at the Hospice of the Monterey Peninsula after suffering a stroke last month. He was 73. Mr. Gammons was born Sept. 10, 1915, in Butte Falls, Ore. He came to Pacific Grove 43 years ago from Westwood. After his retirement in 1975, Mr. Gammons operated a vinyl repair business. He was a member of the California Teachers Association, the National Retired Teachers Association, California Industrial Educators Association and the Christian Educators Association. He was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Berkeley and a former member and Elder of the Mayflower Church in Pacific Grove. He was a graduate of Reedley Junior College and the University of California at Berkeley. He also pursued graduate studies at UC-Berkeley, University of California at Santa Barbara and Bradley University in Illinois. Mr. Gammons coached lightweight basketball at Pacific Grove High in the late 1940s and 1950s, and had a lifetime interest in basketball. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; two sons, Bill of Foster City and Robert of Seaside; three daughters, Susan Luxton of Long Beach, Nancy Sittler of Roy, Wash., and Linda Gammons of Goleta; a brother, David Gammons of Hawaii; two sisters, Clara Geneva of Pleasanton and Rosemary Gammons of San Gabriel; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at El Carmelo Cemetery in Pacific Grove. The Paul Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family suggests that any memorials contributions go to Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, Hospice of the Monterey Peninsula, or to a Christian youth organization of the donor’s choice.
