June 29, 1996 FACULTY (1961-1977) Kenneth Francis Dignan Sr. (83) Monterey Peninsula Herald, CA July 1996 Kenneth Francis Dignan Sr., 83, of Pacific Grove died Saturday at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. Born Aug. 7, 1912, in Oakland, Mr. Dignan had lived in Pacific Grove for 48 years. He was retired from the Pacific Grove Unified School District, where he taught driver education and training. He was a member of the native Sons of the Golden West, Piedmont Parlor No. 120. Mr. Dignan was a professional baseball player in the 1930s, playing with the Oakland Oaks of the California League and the Detroit Tigers. His career ended because of injuries suffered in an auto accident. Mr. Dignan served in the Army during World War II, receiving the Purple Heart. He was a life member of both the 1st Airborne Division Association and the Military Glider Pilots Association. He is survived by his wife, Winifred; a son, Kenneth Jr. of Bakersfield; a brother, Bernard of Oakland; two stepbrothers, Andrew Giambroni of Red Bluff and Frank Giambroni of Oakland; two stepsisters, Eleanor Smith and Jessie Cambra, both of Oakland; and three grandchildren. Private entombment will be held at El Carmelo Cemetery. The Paul Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
