(2006)

I am a teacher in a small rural school. I teach 4th-8th grades at Kneeland Elementary School.

January 9, 2011

We lost our beloved Kathleen (Kathy) Green on Sunday, January 9th 2011 after a long battle against breast cancer. Kathy is survived by her husband of 42 years Steven Green, her son Steven Jason Green, her son Adam Paul Green and his wife Mary, her granddaughter and light of her eyes Ella Aida Green, her mother in-law Aida Green, her brother Robert Northam, and her sister Barbara Harris.

Kathy was a native Californian born and raised in Pacific Grove. It was there she met Steven Green. The two fell in love and married the next year. Kathy gave birth to their first son, Steven Jason, in 1969 while they were residing in Pacific Grove. The family moved to Humboldt County, eventually settling in Eureka. Kathy continued her education at Humboldt State getting a degree in speech therapy and a teaching credential. She gave birth to their second son, Adam Paul, in 1978.

Kathy worked in the small community of Kneeland for over 20 years. This was the job she loved the most. She was both a speech therapist and teacher for grades 3 to 8. Kathy was proud of her work as a teacher. She loved her students and they returned her love. She was firm yet gentle, kind and loving, a great story teller, a friend, and a wonderful role model. Her students often visited her at her home.

Kathy was a loving wife, mother and friend to all. She was fun, kind, gentle and so courageous. She will be missed by us all but we will have fond memories of her.

The family will be hosting an open house on Saturday the 15th of January from 12pm to 2pm at 3701 Spring St, Eureka. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of Kathy. Please sign the guest book at www.Times-Standard.com, click obits.

Kathy (Northam) Green died yesterday in Eureka, CA. She was being treated for her 3rd bout with Cancer. Her husband Steve said all the family was there and that she was peaceful. She was my best friend and it hurts so much! I got to see her in October. She was pretty weary then.I think I knew in my heart that she wouldn't make this one. For those who may have been close there will be a gathering at her house on Saturday. Maybe you can find the obituary regarding any suggestions for donations. If there is none, I would suggested Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Sorry to hear about the passing of Kathy. I remember her well, as she was one of my first friends at R. Down. Great lady.

I didn't know her but being stricken 2x with breast cancer myself, I am saddened to hear she lost her battle. My prayers go out to her family. I too support the Susan B Komen foundation.

I remember Kathy, I lived just up the street from her on Fountain Ave. back in the early 50s. There was a lady who lived with them that I remember as Mrs. Ellis. She was a friend of my grandmother's and the first person I ever knew that was over 100 years old. I believe her mom's name was Dora if I'm not mistaken and she had an older brother named Bob. Grandma and I would visit on occasion but I never really got to know Kathy...R.I.P.

That's a good memory Russ. Kathy's mom's name was Dora, PGHS 1934, 2 siblings, Bob PGHS 1960, and Barbara PGHS 1963
