Thomas Steven Culala died of an inherited
vascular disease at the age of 59 in Olathe, KS,
where he made his home for many years. He
was born Sept. 1, 1948, and died Dec. 29, 2007.
Tom graduated from PGHS in 1967, then from
San Jose State
University, and
served in the U.S.
Navy.
He and his wife
co-founded Cypress
Recovery Inc. 1989,
which today is a
thriving organization
providing quality care
to those suffering
from chemical
dependency, helping
over 800 individuals
yearly.
Tom received the Jefferson Award for
Community Service for the State of Kansas.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie; and
their children, Aaron, Tera, Kristen, Heidi, Kari,
Bo, Stephanie, and Scott; eight grandchildren;
his siblings, Ben ‘66, Mikeal ‘70, Scott ‘72; Sara
Culala Denmark and Annette Culala Groves;
and his mother, Caroline Wheeler Martinez ‘44,
a lifetime resident of Monterey and Pacific
Grove.
