February 22, 1996 FACULTY (1948-1951, 1972-1977) and PRINCIPAL (1951-1972) Rex Dunipace (83) Monterey Peninsula Herald, CA Feb 1996 Rex Dunipace, 83, of Pacific Grove, retired principal of Pacific Grove High School, died Thursday at Crestwood Convalescent Hospital in Monterey. Born May 21, 1912, in Morgan Hill, he had lived in Pacific Grove for 45 years and in Monterey County for 49 years. Mr. Dunipace was a 1935 graduate of San Jose State and earned a master’s degree in 1949 from the University of California at Berkeley. He served as a naval navigator, flying 1,800 hours over the Pacific during 1944-45. Mr. Dunipace worked in education for 39 years, beginning his career at Dos Pasos Junior-Senior High School in 1938. He was a teacher for three years at Pacific Grove High School in the individualized study program and served as principal for 21 years, retiring in 1972. He was a member of St. Mary’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church and the Pacific Grove Kiwanis. He is survived by his wife, Betty; a son, Michael of Salinas; a daughter, Margaret Baldwin of Pacific Grove; a brother, Eric of Watsonville; a sister, Margaret Monchamp of San Jose; and two grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church. The Paul Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family suggests that any memorial contributions be sent to the Pacific Grove Unified School District’s “PG Pride” or to the Alliance on Aging. |
